Our Mallard series guitars are named after the 4468 Mallard steam locomotive (Class A4 4-6-2 Pacific) that was built in England in 1938. It holds the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph. It was retired in 1963.

The CPTLP Challenger is named after the Union Pacific Challengers which were built between 1936 to 1944. Challengers had a 4-6-6-4 wheel arrangement, were 122 feet long and weighed 537 short tons. The Challenger name is also in homage to the Space Shuttle Challenger that disintegrated after launch on my 15th birthday (January 28, 1986).
